About

Solitaire is Zach_Attakk's 2022 TIC-80 adaptation of the classic single-player card game. It is a compact, controller-first cartridge that presents a full 52-card layout rather than a stripped-down puzzle, with bespoke card art credited by the author to yewbi's playing-card set.

The game follows the familiar Klondike structure. Seven tableau columns are dealt in a staircase, with the bottom card in each column face up, while the remaining cards form a stock. Reveal and rearrange cards to expose the buried cards beneath them, then move every suit to its own foundation pile from Ace through King.

Tableau sequences must descend by rank and alternate colours. Only Kings can occupy an empty column, and a completed run of face-up cards can be moved together when its leading card makes a legal placement. Foundation piles accept an Ace into an empty slot and then build upward in matching suit.

The stock is drawn one card at a time. When its current card is selected, it can be moved into the tableau or, when eligible, played directly to a foundation; the dedicated play-out control also sends a held single card to its matching foundation automatically. Running through the stock again resets it for another pass.

Navigation is built around the D-pad, which moves the cursor among the stock, waste card, tableau and foundations. A/Z picks up and places cards, B/X cancels a held move or returns focus to the face-up stock card, and X/A advances the stock or plays out a held card. Holding Y/S for about two seconds starts a freshly shuffled deal.

There is no score counter, timer, persistent record or victory scene: completing all four foundations immediately deals another game. That unadorned presentation suits TIC-80, the open-source fantasy computer built for small shareable cartridges and designed around a 240 by 136 display, 16-colour palette and gamepad-friendly inputs.
