About
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for Game Boy Advance is a 2002 single-player action-adventure game developed by Eurocom and published by EA Games. Based on Harry Potter's second year at Hogwarts, it is a portable adaptation with an isometric viewpoint and its own structure, rather than a scaled-down copy of the console or PC games that share its title. Players guide Harry through a school year in which a long-hidden threat has returned to Hogwarts and students are being petrified.
The adventure follows Harry from the ordinary world back into the wizarding one, beginning with Dobby's warning and Harry's reunion with the Weasleys before the journey reaches Hogwarts. The story draws on major situations and locations from Chamber of Secrets, but the Game Boy Advance game tells them through conversations, exploration, and short objectives. Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, Dumbledore, Gilderoy Lockhart, Draco Malfoy, and other familiar figures appear as Harry investigates what is happening inside the school.
Exploration is central to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets GBA. Harry moves through rooms, corridors, and the school grounds, speaking with characters and following clues to the next destination. Classes and assignments expand what he can do, while magical barriers, switches, locked containers, and hostile creatures turn the castle into a sequence of small combat and puzzle challenges. Spells are used both to deal with enemies and to affect objects in the environment, so progress often depends on recognizing which piece of magic can clear a route or reveal a useful item.
The game also breaks its larger mystery into mini-quests. Harry can search for ingredients, visit parts of Hogwarts that become important to the investigation, and travel beyond the castle when the plot leads toward Hagrid's hut and the Forbidden Forest. Broom-riding challenges provide a different kind of activity, and collectible Famous Witches and Wizards cards give players optional goals alongside the main route. These diversions suit the handheld format while keeping the school grounds connected to the wider story.
As the danger around Hogwarts escalates, Harry follows the clues surrounding the Chamber of Secrets, its history, and the monster connected with it. The final stretch takes the investigation through Moaning Myrtle's bathroom and toward the Chamber itself, bringing the portable game to the same central conflict as the book and film. The presentation remains focused on Harry's solo journey, even when friends and teachers supply leads, advice, or story scenes.
This Game Boy Advance version is notably separate from the 2002 Game Boy Color role-playing game and from the 3D versions made for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube. Eurocom's GBA release also included a period-specific connection feature: using a Game Boy Advance–GameCube cable with the compatible GameCube game unlocks a secret area in the GBA adventure. That area contains an additional location card, tying the handheld card-collecting challenges to an extra unlock in the GameCube version and making this adaptation part of Electronic Arts' early Game Boy Advance and GameCube connectivity experiments.
