About
Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 7 is Konami's Japanese PlayStation 2 baseball game, released on July 6, 2000. Developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Osaka, it is the seventh numbered entry in the long-running Power Pro series and its first outing on Sony's new console. The game brings the series' deliberately super-deformed ballplayers, Japanese commentary, and licensed Nippon Professional Baseball presentation to PS2, with player and team information reflecting the opening part of the 2000 season.
At the plate and on the mound, the game retains the direct, timing-based style that defines Power Pro baseball. Players choose pitches and aim their deliveries as pitchers, then track the ball and swing as batters, while fielding, baserunning, substitutions, and tactical choices round out a full game. Its compact character design makes the players instantly recognizable, but the action is built around the familiar rhythms of professional baseball: working counts, turning double plays, protecting leads, and producing runs when the opportunity arrives.
Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 7 offers several ways to play through the 2000 Japanese professional season. Exhibition games provide a quick matchup, while Pennant and league options let a selected club pursue a longer campaign. A Home Run Derby focuses on power hitting, and the scenario mode puts players into recreated, team-specific situations inspired by memorable professional baseball games. The PS2 release supports one or two local players, so its modes accommodate solo play as well as head-to-head contests.
The major single-player feature is Success mode, where the player creates an original ballplayer and attempts to build a professional career. Rather than using one generic route, the mode lets the player choose from all twelve NPB clubs, each with its own events and cast. Training, special practice, matches, and off-field choices shape the created athlete's abilities and progress; a strong enough player can earn a regular place on the top squad. The mode's stories and character events give the management and development side of the game a different pace from its regular matches.
The game also records the transition of the franchise to PlayStation 2. Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 7 was the first main-series Power Pro title to use fully polygonal graphics, while preserving the stylized visual identity established by earlier entries. Its mix of arcade-readable controls, season modes, recreated baseball moments, and player creation shows why the series could serve both as a licensed NPB game and as a broader baseball playground.
A later Japanese release, Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 7 Ketteiban, should not be confused with this July edition. That December 2000 revision retained the original game's playable features but updated its player data and records through the end of the season, as well as refreshing scenario material. The original Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 7 remains the launch-period PS2 installment: a snapshot of the 2000 NPB season and an early 3D chapter for Konami's distinctive baseball series.
